The second affordable option in this test comes courtesy of Iiyama, which sent us two screens as well. Some years ago the company had a hit on its hands with the E2473 screen, a fast and affordable 24-inch model. This year the brand has reused the same moniker to deliver another speedy screen – but is it as good as its predecessor?

The E2473HS is, particularly in comparison to the rest of our test subjects, very agreeably priced. It has a simple tilt-only stand, but features a lot of inputs, lacking only DisplayPort.

The test results show a pretty average screen in most respects: the colour temperature is, like most gaming panels here, too high, though not as bad as some, the contrast ratio is pretty good thanks mostly to a reasonably high maximum brightness and the gamma value isn’t too far off the ideal 2.2 either. Surprisingly, the colour and grayscale deviations are also mild, in particular considering most of the competition and TN panels in general. However, response times without overdrive are bad indeed – only after cranking up overdrive to maximum settings is ghosting eradicated, only to be traded in for overshoot artefacts in spades.
That said, with some fiddling of the overdrive setting the E2473HS could make for a halfway decent, budget gaming screen. However, it’s a far cry from the 120/144Hz competition, including Iiyama’s very own contender.
